Tasmania Police Officers serve a population nearing half a million people within four geographical districts. In addition to the geographical districts there are five support commands. These are located in Hobart and provide specialist police services and a range of support services to all districts.

Each district is divided into divisions with Commanders in each district having the responsibility for the delivery of policing services to their respective communities.

The Department employs around 1,245 police officers and 473 State Service and State Emergency Service personnel. It utilises the services of around 577 emergency service volunteers statewide. (These figures are exclusive of the TFS).
